Connor S. Read is a painter working primarily in acrylic on canvas and watercolor on paper. A self-taught artist, he began by creating portrait and wildlife commissions for friends and family before committing fully to his studio practice. His work is shaped by extensive time spent outdoors, where careful observation and engagement with the natural environment inform his visual language.
Read’s paintings reveal a strong sensitivity to form, color, texture, and light, balancing naturalistic detail with subtle expressive interpretation. Birds frequently serve as his central subject, depicted with attentiveness to both their physical intricacies and their place within the surrounding landscape. Through this approach, his work seeks to highlight the understated beauty and presence of wildlife.
This sensibility is evident in his watercolor Fading Echoes, inspired by the Sandhill Crane, where layered washes and atmospheric tones convey the fleeting nature of the scene.
As a bird enthusiast, adventurer, and artist, I am driven to capture the serenity and beauty of the natural world. Through my acrylic and watercolor artworks, I aim to inspire a sense of wonder and awe, while also highlighting the importance of conservation and protection of our planet's precious wildlife and habitats.
My art is a journey through the secluded landscapes and habitats that are home to the incredible diversity of bird species. I emphasize the colorful plumage and graceful forms of my avian subjects with bold and vibrant acrylic paint, while my watercolor works are softer and more ethereal, capturing the dreamy quality of misty landscapes and hidden waterways.
With every brushstroke, I hope to transport viewers to the wild spaces I've been fortunate enough to experience, and to inspire a sense of responsibility to preserve these treasures for future generations. By combining art and activism, I strive to make a positive impact on the world, one painting at a time.
